For those of you confused by my various names - I was born, and soon afterwards my parents named me Cherrill Mary. I don't know why because Mummy was called Beryl Mary - conventional spelling. When I was in the RAF I acquired the nickname of Sam which was marvellous because everyone could pronounce it and spell it - so I have been Sam ever since. The worst name-period was when I was married to my first husband. Mail order shopping by phone as Cherrill Vause of Frithville Gardens was a nightmare and I was usually addressed as Mrs V-a-u-s-e ! I have now reverted very happily to my maiden name and you may call me Miss Covington, Sam or Samantha - but if you call me Cherrill I shall think you are my parent! Whilst on the subject of names - I really hate being called Cherrill by Amazon.co.uk. They don't know me from Adam so why should they presume to call me by my first name! |
